The government and administration of the Kingdom of Saxony is administered by the King, the 6 ministries and the Landtag, consisting of the first and the second chamber. / The Kingdom of Saxony, with its 143 towns, 3028 Landgemeinden and 1221 Gutsbezirke, is divided into 5 regions and 28 districts. The main towns of the regions are underlined. The other settlements are seats of the districts, bearing the name of their capitals. / The 5 exempt cities, Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz, Plauen and Zwickau, make up a separate administrative district. / The numbers under the names of the cities indicate the population density per 1 km2 in each of the districts and exempt cities. / The 3171 urban and rural communities are almost equally divided into places of Slavic origins (1567) and German origins (1604).
